In Europe there are blood-sucking ticks that can spread the incurable hemorrhagic fever virus Crimean-Congo. Although the virus is relatively rare, it is gaining ground in Europe. Now there is concern that Sweden may be affected.

What makes Crimean-Congo-tick as is feared that it may spread hemorrhagic fever, which is a very painful disease with high mortality. Every third person contracting the virus dies within two weeks and there is no vaccine or cure.
- The symptoms begin flu with headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea. In more serious cases similar to Ebola hemorrhagic disease with bleeding from the nose and gums, and bleeding in the internal organs, says Ali Mirazimi, associate professor of virology at the Public Health Agency and the Swedish Veterinary Institute.
30 dead in Turkey
The worst hit by the virus in Europe is Turkey, where some thirty dead so far this year and about a thousand people a year are infected. While Balkan countries have been hit hard, particularly Kosovo.
