Lyme disease: long-suffering patients hope Hershey event will cure medical "illiteracy"

"Huck, however, is among those who found himself battling a syndrome known as “persistent Lyme disease.” He received antibiotics and seemed to be better. But a few months later he became severely ill again, with his doctor attributing the situation to another illness, and insisting it couldn't be Lyme disease.

He eventually found a Maryland doctor who offered the long-term antibiotics. One of the terrors of Lyme disease, Huck explained, is its ability to mutate and essentially hide until the body is clear of antibiotics, then return with a vengeance.

He says he has met many people who endured a similar ordeal. Some had symptoms such as severe fatigue, joint pain, headaches and “brain fog” for months. Their doctors attributed it to illnesses including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and multiple sclerosis, and the prescribed, non-antibiotic treatments didn't address the problem, he says."
